Editorial & Review Policy

1. What we publish

HomeCareHub publishes three kinds of content: interactive tools (calculators, screeners, planners), educational guides about arranging and paying for in-home senior care, and local resource pages for California communities. All of it is written for families making practical decisions, not for clinicians.

2. Sourcing standards

Every factual claim has to trace back to a source in one of these tiers, in order of preference:

• Government and public health bodies (CDC, NIH, CMS/Medicare, state and county aging services, Bureau of Labor Statistics)
• Professional and clinical organizations (for example the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, and comparable specialty bodies) for reference ranges and screening thresholds
• Peer-reviewed research and established clinical formulas, cited by name where a calculator uses one
• Published industry cost surveys for care pricing, with the survey and year named rather than presented as a universal figure

We do not publish claims sourced only from marketing material, vendor blogs, or unattributed aggregator sites. Where evidence is mixed or ranges vary by region, we say so instead of picking the most confident-sounding number.

3. How tools are verified

Each calculator states the formula or classification standard it uses. Before publication a reviewer independently reproduces the math against the cited source, checks unit conversions in both imperial and metric, and tests boundary values so a result does not flip categories incorrectly. Screening tools (fall risk, care needs, safety checklists) present a risk band and suggested next step, never a diagnosis.

4. Review workflow

• Draft: a writer builds the page from primary sources and outlines the decision the reader is trying to make.
• Accuracy review: a second contributor verifies figures, formulas, thresholds, and program rules against the cited sources.
• Plain-language and accessibility review: the page is edited for readability, keyboard and screen-reader usability, and colour contrast.
• Publication: the page goes live with a visible publication date.

5. Updates and dating

Every article displays a published date and, where applicable, a last-updated date. We only change the updated date when the substance changed: a revised guideline, new cost data, a corrected figure, or added sections. Cosmetic or formatting edits do not reset the date, so an old date means the content genuinely has not needed revision. Cost, benefit, and program-eligibility pages are reviewed at least annually because those figures move.

6. Corrections

If we get something wrong, we fix it as a priority and update the modified date. Material corrections to a factual claim are noted in the page itself. To report an error, use our planning form and mention "correction" in your message.

7. Independence and how we make money

Editorial decisions are made independently of any care provider. Some pages include a soft referral to a home care agency where it is genuinely useful to a family looking for local help, and those references are clearly presented as an option rather than an endorsement of a single vendor. A referral never determines what a guide says, how a calculator scores, or whether a competing option is covered fairly.

8. Use of AI

We use software assistance for drafting and research support, but no page is published without a human contributor verifying the facts, formulas, and sources, and editing the language. Responsibility for what appears on the site rests with our editorial team, not with a tool.

9. Privacy in our tools

Calculators run entirely in your browser. We do not store, transmit, or sell the health details you enter. See our privacy policy for the full detail.
