Oxygen Tank Duration Estimator
Estimate how long an oxygen tank lasts based on tank size and flow rate.
What Is an Oxygen Tank Duration Estimate?
An oxygen tank duration estimate tells you approximately how long your portable oxygen will last at a given flow rate. This is critical for planning outings, travel, or simply knowing when to order a refill.
How Is It Calculated?
The formula adjusts the tank's total capacity by the current pressure (PSI) relative to a full tank (2,000 PSI), then divides by the flow rate: Duration = (Tank Liters × Current PSI ÷ 2000) ÷ Flow Rate. Higher flow rates deplete the tank faster.
Common Tank Sizes
Portable tanks (B, C, D) are light enough to carry and typically last 1–4 hours. The E cylinder is the most common portable size for home care. Larger stationary tanks (M, H/K) are used at home and can last several days at low flow rates.
